Automatic Lawnmowers Are The New Must-Have For Gardeners

Automatic lawnmowers have been slow to take off in the UK. But that situation is changing fast mainly due to a new UK distributor who is making sure that there is no more "What on earth are you talking about?" when they are mentioned. On the Continent and in America these robots are working hard, improving lawns while giving off no CO2 emissions. And soon the UK will catch up once the advantages of automatic lawnmowers are understood.

Mowing a lawn with a petrol mower for one hour emits the same amount of CO2 as that of 35 cars travelling 100 miles. We all know that pollution must be cut and by using an automatic lawnmower instead of a petrol mower gardeners can make an enormous difference. Other advantages are that there is no petrol to buy and store and of course, no labour needed.

The noise in the street on a fine Sunday mainly comes from lawnmowers and strimmers. In the autumn perhaps leaf blowers too. If every one cut their lawn with an automatic lawnmower it would only be the strimmers disturbing the peace as these robots are virtually noiseless. In fact, if you wanted to get your lawn mown during the night no neighbours would object.

Buying lawn fertiliser would be a thing of the past as the robot cuts off such a tiny amount of grass at a time that it falls back into the grass and provides nutrients for the lawn. There are many models of automatic lawnmowers, the larger needing two batteries, so all lawns from the smallest to ones of up to 4 acres are catered for.

A description of exactly how these robotic lawnmowers work will take up too much space here, but the general principle is that the lawn area to be cut is encircled with a wire (which becomes invisible very, very quickly) and the automatic mower works within that area. If the mower meets a tree it just backs off and goes in another direction. Island flower beds are no problem either for this robot, or ponds for that matter, as it is automatically programmed to deal with obstacles.

The robot soon becomes one of the family and nearly all are given names! I have had my automatic lawnmower for three years - he is called Little Chap and is one of the medium sized mowers available. He weighs 9 Kgs and lives in his small house which is his charging station. (You see, I even use 'he,' 'him' and 'his' I am so fond of 'him'!).

With a guarantee of 2 years, no petrol or labour input and an annual service, the running costs for these automatic lawnmowers are about £6.00 annually. The electricity usage is minimal - like leaving on a light bulb.

There is much more to know and a browse on the internet will allow a potential buyer to watch an automatic lawnmower at work and help to decide which robot would be ideal for them.
